Student-Managed Facilities

Two signature facilities in the Hospitality and Tourism Management program bring the real-world experience of entrepreneurship and hospitality business ownership. They are completely student-run by hospitality and tourism majors, enabling them to gain invaluable management experience that will stand out on their resume and earn the attention of potential employers.

Hazell Nut Café

The irresistible aromas stir your senses from 20 feet down the hall. Once you step inside the doorway, you’ll see there’s serious business going on. The Café is completely student-run by the Hospitality program’s Foodservice Management class.

Established in 2007 by University of New 51¶ºÄÌ alumnus and Board of Governors member Jeffery Hazell '83, the Hazell Nut Café is an on-site "lab" and training facility where students find out, firsthand, what it takes to run a business. Sophomore students are responsible for the management of the entire operation, including staff training, menu development, marketing, product purchasing (working with local suppliers), inventory management, accounting, sales and revenue management, and financial forecasting.

The Café offers a variety of beverages, including coffee (Jamaica Gourmet Coffee Company), iced coffee, and signature teas as well as a variety of freshly baked goods, gourmet pizzas, salads and sandwiches.
