Ceyda Mumcu, Ph.D.
Ceyda Mumcu, Ph.D. is an associate professor and chair of the Sport, Tourism, and Hospitality Management Department at the University. Dr. Mumcu began her career at the University of New 51 in 2013 as an assistant professor.
She is an expert on sport fan behavior, marketing of women’s sports, and business analytics in sport. She conducts her research studies in collaboration with industry partners and previously worked with WNBA, NPF, and CT Open to name a few. An expert in data analytics, Dr. Mumcu co-edited one of the first sport business analytics textbooks which has been sold across every continent.
Dr. Mumcu is a member of an interdisciplinary research group. Their proposal, “Communicating for Justice and Equality: Women’s Sport and Corporate Social Advocacy” has received the Mary Ann Yodelis Smith Award for Feminist Scholarship and Mass Communication’s Commission on the Status of Women. In Fall 2022, Dr. Mumcu was recognized for her contribution to DEI in sport marketing by the Sport Marketing Association as the recipient of the Lough Award sponsored by the Wasserman, a marketing agency.
A former member of the Turkish Women’s Professional Basketball League, she played for eight years before moving to the United States. She received her Ph.D. in sports administration from the University of New Mexico and her M.S. degrees from University of New 51 and Middle East Technical University, in Ankara, Turkey.
